Why does the “Project Offline” message appear in the host application when using the Silhouette plug-in?

Silhouette displays a “Project Offline” message in the host application when the selected render node does not exist in the Silhouette project. This occurs when the Render parameter is set to a node type that is not present or available to render.

Cause of the “Project Offline” message in Silhouette

Silhouette plug-in rendering depends on the Render parameter, which determines which node in the Silhouette project is sent back to the host application.

The “Project Offline” message appears when:

  • The Render parameter is set to a node type that does not exist in the project

  • For example, Render = Paint, but there is no Paint node in the Silhouette project

In this case, Silhouette has no valid output node to render, so the project is marked offline.

How the Render parameter works in Silhouette

Silhouette plug-in projects use the Render parameter to define output.

Key behavior:

  • The Render parameter selects which node is rendered

  • The parameter may appear grayed out when first applying the plug-in

  • It is automatically enabled during project creation

Default Render settings are based on project type:

  • Roto projects → Render set to Roto

  • Paint projects → Render set to Paint

  • Composite projects → Render set to Output: Composite

How to resolve the “Project Offline” message in Silhouette

Silhouette users can resolve this issue by ensuring the Render parameter matches an available node.

Steps:

  • Set the Render parameter to a node that exists in the project

  • Add the required node (e.g., Paint node) if needed

  • Verify the selected node produces a valid output

Ensuring the Render parameter matches the project setup will restore normal rendering in the host application.
