What hardware configuration is recommended for optimal use of Samplitude or Music Studio

All BorisFX programs are designed to be user-friendly, ensuring that all basic functions run smoothly and can be fully utilized even on less powerful computers.

However, some advanced functions require higher performance. In order to achieve optimal performance for your use, we have prepared the following recommendations.

Minimum Hardware Requests

For simple audio editing tasks

Suitable for:

  • Audio Editing
  • Multitrack recordings
  • Mixing and mastering projects with a moderate number of plugins
  • Up to approximately 48 audio tracks with normal buffer sizes (512 samples)

Operating system

  • Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit)

CPU

  • 4–8 CPU Cores
  • High single-core clock speed is more important than many cores.
  • Intel Core i5 or i7 from the 8th generation onwards, Intel Core series or AMD Ryzen 5 or 7

RAM

  • 8GB minimal,16 GB recommended

Hard drive storage

  • 2 GB for program installation
  • 14 GB for instruments and sound
  • At least 500 GB internal SSD for system, projects and audio files

Graphics

  • An integrated GPU is sufficient; a high-performance GPU is not required for simple audio workflows.

Audio interface

  • WDM-enabled sound card or USB-Interface with native ASIO drivers
  • 2–8 inputs/outputs

Internet connection

  • Required for registration, validation, and individual program functions. Software requires registration.

Optimal configuration

For professional work without technical compromises

Suitable for:

  • Large recording, mixing and mastering projects
  • Extensive use of plugins and virtual instruments
  • Low latency during playback
  • 64–128 tracks, buffer sizes of 128-256 samples possible with PCIe interface (256-512 samples at 96kHz)

Operating system

  • Windows 11 (64-bit) for optimal performance distribution with current CPU models

CPU

  • 8–16 CPU Cores
  • Very good single-core boost performance
  • e.g. Intel Core i7 14700, Intel Core 3 series or AMD Ryzen 7 9700X
  • Insulated housing with good airflow for a studio-suitable, low-noise environment.

RAM

  • 32 GB or more
  • Dual channel recommended

Hard drive storage

  • 2 GB for program installation
  • 14 GB for instruments and sound
  • 1–2 TB NVMe SSD for system, programs and plugins
  • Dedicated SSD/NVMe for projects and audio data

Graphics

  • iGPU or quiet dedicated GPU for optimal video acceleration

Audio Interface

  • High-quality USB interface
  • Latest Windows 11 compatible drivers with low round-trip latencies
  • 8–16+ inputs and outputs depending on the task area

Internet connection

  • Required for registration, validation, and individual program functions. Software requires registration.

High-end configuration

For large productions, post-production, multi-synchronous editing, broadcast

Suitable for:

  • Extensive recording, mixing and mastering projects
  • Many plugins & buses
  • Huge sample libraries
  • Extremely stable Low-Latency-Setups
  • 128+ tracks, buffer sizes of 128-256 samples possible with PCIe interface (256-512 samples at 96kHz)
  • 64+ recording channels (I/O)
  • Continuous operation and high reliability

Operating system

  • Windows 11 (64-bit) for optimal performance distribution with current CPUs

CPU

  • 16–24+ CPU Cores
  • A combination of high clock speed and many cores
  • e.g. Intel Core i9 14900K, INTEL Core Ultra 7 265K  oder AMD Ryzen™ 9 9950X3D
  • Insulated housing with good airflow for a studio-suitable, low-noise environment.

RAM

  • 64 GB
  • 128 GB for extensive multi-synchronization projects or film/post-production workflows
  • Dual channel recommended

Hard drive storage (Separate drives recommended)

  • 2 GB for program installation
  • 14 GB for instruments and sounds
  • 1–2 TB NVMe SSD for system, programs, plugins
  • 2–4 TB NVMe SSD for audio projects, audio material and samples
  • 2-4 TB NVMe SSD for project backups

Graphics

  • A dedicated GPU with low DPC latency, ideally passively cooled if necessary.
  • Modern graphics card with AVC, HEVC, and AV1 codec support for accelerated video performance
  • e.g. current NVIDIA RTX 50 series, AMD Radeon RX series or INTEL Arc

Audio-Interface

  • Professional interface with excellent drivers, e.g., RME
  • Very low latency even under high CPU load
  • Multi-channel I/O, word clock, expandable

Miscellaneous

  • Fast USB3-Ports
  • Adequate power supply for powering the motherboard, CPU and graphics card
  • PCIe connection for sound cards
  • Fast network for NAS workflows

Internet connection

  • Required for registration, validation, and individual program functions. Software requires registration.
