Why don’t I see the image from Optics when working in Particle Illusion?

Optics may not display the source image in Particle Illusion if the preview background is set incorrectly. Particle Illusion controls how the background image is shown during effect previews.

Cause of missing image in Optics Particle Illusion

Optics with Particle Illusion uses a preview background setting that determines how effects are displayed.

This issue occurs when:

  • The preview is set to Composite Over Black

  • The source image is not visible behind the particle effects

As a result, only particles appear, and the original image is not shown.

How to fix missing image in Optics Particle Illusion

Optics users working in Particle Illusion can correct the preview setting.

Steps:

  • In Particle Illusion, locate the Preview Background icon

  • Set it to Composite Over Source Videomceclip0.png

Result after updating the preview setting

After changing the setting:

  • The original image will be visible behind the particle effects

  • Particle Illusion previews will match the expected Optics result

  • Compositing behavior will be easier to evaluate

Using the correct preview mode ensures proper visualization when working with Optics and Particle Illusion.
