Why does DaVinci Resolve limit Silhouette plug-ins to a single input?

Silhouette plug-ins in DaVinci Resolve are limited to a single input because Resolve does not support multiple inputs for plug-ins that use custom user interfaces.

Input limitation for Silhouette plug-ins in Resolve

Silhouette plug-ins in Resolve cannot receive more than one input directly from the host application.

This means:

  • Only one input can be connected to the Silhouette plug-in in Resolve

  • Resolve does not support multi-input workflows for plug-ins with custom UIs

  • This limitation applies to all similar plug-ins, not just Silhouette

How to use multiple inputs in Silhouette with Resolve

Silhouette provides a workaround for this limitation by allowing additional sources to be added inside the Silhouette interface.

This means:

  • Additional inputs can be imported or added directly within Silhouette

  • Multi-source compositing can still be performed inside the Silhouette node graph

  • The limitation only applies to inputs coming from Resolve, not within Silhouette itself

Using this approach allows Silhouette workflows in Resolve to continue working with multiple inputs despite the host limitation.
