Why do I see a completely white alpha view in the Roto node instead of roto shapes in Silhouette?

Silhouette may display a completely white screen when viewing the alpha channel of a Roto node if the source footage has an opaque alpha channel. This prevents the roto shapes from being visible in the alpha view.

Cause of white alpha view in Silhouette

Silhouette Roto node alpha display depends on the alpha channel of the source image.

This issue occurs when:

  • The source image has a fully opaque alpha channel

  • The alpha channel overrides the visibility of roto shapes

  • The Viewer shows a solid white alpha instead of the roto matte

How to fix the white alpha view in Silhouette

Silhouette users can correct the alpha display by adjusting the source node settings.

Steps:

  1. Select the source image thumbnail in the Trees window

  2. Open the Node window

  3. Change Alpha > Fill from None to Transparent

This setting allows Silhouette to properly display the roto shapes in the alpha view.

Result after fixing alpha settings in Silhouette

After updating the alpha settings:

  • The Roto node alpha view will display the roto shapes correctly

  • The Viewer will no longer appear completely white

  • Roto mattes will be visible as expected in Silhouette

This adjustment ensures accurate alpha visualization when working with Silhouette roto nodes.
